Spalting Wood

On  July 19, 2009 I am attempting to splating my first piece of wood.  I have place 3 pieces of Chinese weeping willow wood in a plastic bag with 3 bottles of beer, 3 quarts of steer manure, 2 quarts of ammonia, 3 quarts of water and 6 quarts of maple leaves.

On July 30, I cut some more wood down and decided to start another 3 pieces of aspen using the same mixture.

Aug 13, 2009 it is now almost one month into the process.  A critter got into the bag so I took a peek.  I was surprised to see how moist everything was in the bag.  I have re-sealed the bag and placed it under a tarp to
