Burl

A Burl is a figured piece of wood. When the burl is still on the tree it looks like an ugly growth or knot sticking out from the tree that does not belong. However, the wood under the bark is something quite different it is the most beautiful you can find. It is composed of unique swirls of grain and small eyes from branches that have grown from the burl. Burls can be found on almost any tree, but they are not common making them the rarest and most beautiful part of the tree.
